As many of you know Ross is originally from Harlingen. And yes, Harlingen pretty much took a direct hit from hurricane Dolly. We have received so many phone calls from our family and friends checking up on them and we appreciate everyone keeping them in your prayers. As of late this morning we have no contact with Ross' parents, sister, niece and nephew. Kristi, Cade, and Bailey were down in the valley visiting for the next week. The last we spoke to them was earlier today and it sounded like they would be heading our way if they could get out with all the flooding. They got some water in their house from between the windows and such from the rain but the house did not get flood waters. They lost at least one avocado tree and have some branches that have cracked away from others. One pretty significant branch is resting on their house and they were hoping there was no significant damage from that. Also, they have a Spanish tile roof and they lost some of their tiles. The worse thing is not having any electricity; therefore, no a/c!!! Yuck! There cell phones are now dead and there land line is down. They did say that they got electricity for 10 mins this morning and then a limb took out the electrical line from the pole to their house so they do not expect to get electricity anytime soon. I guess we will see if they show up tonight. Hopefully they can stop and buy a car charger or stop and call and let us know if they were able to get out.
As for the rest of Ross' family in the valley they fared about the same. Loss trees, a small building blew down, some barn doors flew down, no electricity, some water damage. The worse was probably Ross' Uncle Lynn's cows were standing in deep water and had no dry ground. They are working on getting them out. We have had to swim cattle out of the river bottoms when the river floods many times before, so I know how frustrating that is. No word yet on the cotton crop but I fear that it was lost.
Anyways, the best that could come out of this situation is that Shelby will get to spend time with her grandparents, aunt, and cousins. For the next week+ I am back at work while the lady that replaced me is becoming a grandma. Shelby is with her grandma Leyendecker this afternoon but we will be putting her on the payroll next week at Clay & Leyendecker, Inc. if need be. Her job title "Entertainer". As for a mini Shelby update the child practically runs now. She follows us all around the house and has developed an "attitude". She is quite headstrong, actually that doesn't even scratch the surface. She got mad at me the other day and started slapping me in the face. Aunt Kristen witnessed it and I think was a little shocked! Ross' cousin Karyn came by with Aunt Ann and Aunt Sherry and took some pictures of Shelby. I will share some when we get them. I saw a couple after she took them and they were really cute.
Keep the Johnsons in your prayers......
