Shelby Loves Visitors!

Grandpa and Grandma Leyendecker took care of Shelby while mom and dad went on a date. Looks like Shelby did not miss us!!!!

Our friends Chuck and Ashley came by to see Shelby. Chuck and Ashley will be moving to old Katy in a couple of weeks and we are very excited about that.

Great Uncle Tony and Aunt Diana came to see little Shelby. Shelby really liked to be held by them. She was completely out and limp.

All by ourselves...well, not really!

Sunday was our first night without a Grandma in the house. Grandma Leyendecker left at 8:45 and Shelby was asleep. The night went okay. Shelby is up for a 3 to 4 hour span at night, which is not fun. Monday mommy and Shelby were alone until noon. Grandma and Grandpa Leyendecker came by for lunch and Grandma stayed until daddy got home. It was a rough morning adjusting to being by ourselves because mommy was very tired. Today has gone better. It is 1pm and Shelby has slept all morning. Mommy has gotten a nap and feels relatively good. Last night Shelby slept from 8:45 - 12:20, which was very promising except then she did not go back to sleep until 4 something. Daddy seems to have the touch and mommy finally broke down and woke him up at 4. Of course, he was able to put her asleep in no time. Grandma Leyendecker should be here soon and mommy is hoping to get to put dinner together for the first time since she had Shelby.

Sunday, Patrick (Ross' college roommate) and Laurie McKinney came by to see Shelby and brought mommy and daddy a homemade apple pie. Ross said we need to hurry up and have another kid so that we can get another one of Laurie's apple pies.

Gig' em Gaggies

Well, tonight I figured out that Shelby should now be a part of the Aggie football team. She would fit in perfectly. She slept throught the whole first half, woke up at halftime to get a little snack, and then slept the whole second half. Well now that I think about it she might be a little too active and exciteable to play fightin' Texas Aggie football. Even Grandma Johnson got in on the fun; she said that Shelby's poo doesn't even stink as bad as the football team. I used to enjoy watching the Aggies play because they put their heart into the game, but tonight I saw no heart and no effort to even save face after getting whooped up on in the first half. Even worse is the fact that our coaching staff refuses to call any plays that make any sense whatsoever. I truly believe we are now in a position to upset some people now that J-Train's (who said no defense in the country could stop our offense) head is now back to normal size. We definitely did not deserve to be ranked. Oh well, I figured I'd try to post something before Travis does, because, if I know him, it will be soon to follow.

It Has Been An Eventful 12 Hours!

Before the fun began.
Well last night was the first time that we really heard Shelby cry. She has not been a fussy baby at all. She loves to sleep and eat but last night she had a tummy ache. She screamed and cried and there was not a lot we could do about it. We could hear her little tummy rumbling and about 12:30 this morning she calmed down and went to sleep. Grandma Johnson stayed up and held here. Everytime we would try and put her down she would start to cry.
This morning the fun continued. Shelby had her 2 week visit at the Doctor's office. She had to be stuck in the heal and have a little blood drawn for the usual testing. We found out that Shelby is a good clotter. Usually this would be a good thing but not for having blood drawn. She ended up getting stuck 5 times before they got enough blood. Luckily, dad went with us and held Shelby while they took her blood. As you can imagine she screamed and cried and both daddy and Shelby were completely sweated by the time it was over with. The good news was that Shelby is gaining weight. She weighs 9 lbs. 8 ozs., which keeps her at the 75th percentile. She still measured 22 inches and therefore she is still in the 90th percentile for height. The doctor did say that she is doing so well with her weight gain that she can sleep as long as she wants at night. Mom really appreciates that!!!
We came home from the doctor and Grandma Johnson changed Shelby's diaper. When Grandma opened up her outfit her umbilical cord fell out. Shelby now has a belly button and daddy is excited that he finally gets to kiss it!

More Pictures and Visitors!

We had lots of visitors this weekend. Grandma and Grandpa Johnson, Uncle Travis, Aunt Sarah, cousins Cooper and Tyler, Great Aunt Sherry, Ross' cousin Amanda, and Kim's college roommate Carrie came to see Shelby. Below are some new pictures.

Here is a picture of Shelby playing in her crib. She is wearing one of her favorite onesies. The onesie says "Daddy does my hair".

Here is a picture of Shelby with Kim's college roommate Carrie.

Here is a picture of Shelby playing with Grandpa Johnson.

The family came to hang out with Shelby on Saturday.

Shelby got to meet two of her four cousins. Here is a picture of Grandma Johnson holding Shelby and Grandpa Johnson holding her cousin Cooper. Cooper is 7 weeks older than Shelby.

Ross' cousin Amanda came over to hold Shelby. Shelby slept in her arms most of the afternoon.

Shelby's cousin Tyler spent most of the day Saturday playing outside with either Grandpa or Uncle Ross.

More Great-Grandparents

Shelby had more of her great-grandparents visit on Friday. My (Kim's) maternal grandparents and paternal grandmother came to visit.
Great-Grandma Doris loved to talk to me.
Great-Grandpa Muske thinks I'm pretty special.

G.G. Muske, as she has decided she would like to be called, was in heaven.

Grandparents and Great-Grandparents

Shelby is lucky enough to have all four of her grandparents and all nine great-grandparents. The first round of great-grandparents came tonight. My (Kim) paternal grandfather and step grandmother came to see Shelby and have dinner. No one is quite sure if she favors Ross or me but they do remember me having black hair when I was born. My black hair stood straight up, unlike Shelby's. Grandpa did tell us that Shelby is cuter as a baby than I was. I would have to agree!!! She is pretty much the cutest baby ever....maybe I'm a little bias.

Proud Great-Grandpa Crockett and his first great-grandchild.

Great-Grandma Dorothy thought I was pretty cute.

Four generations. We have a picture of 4 generations including my great-grandfather when I was a baby.

One more picture of the new great-grandparents.

Shelby's First Slumber Party!

Shelby's grandma Leyendecker has been staying with us since we got home and getting the least amount of sleep out of everyone. Since Humberto was headed for Beaumont, Aunt Kristen's school was cancelled and she came over to have a slumber party with Shelby.

This picture was very early this morning and Aunt Kristen did not want this picture to be seen!

This is the only way to safely wake a sleeping bear!

Shelby's First Doctor Visit and More Pictures

Mom finally gets a chance to blog - Shelby had her first doctor's visit today. Her doctor is the same doctor I had as a child. She slept on her way to the doctor and the only time she got upset is when she had to be stripped naked to be weighed in such a cold room. As soon as we stripped her she wet the scale. The nurse had a little discussion with her about how only little boys are supposed to do that. The slight jaundice that she had in her face is gone. She is back to her birth weight of 8 lbs. 12 ozs., which puts her in the 75th percentile for weight and she measured 22 inches in length (90th percentile). I find it hard to believe that she has grown 2 inches in 4 days but the nurse said when they are born they can not stretch them out fully. Looks like she is going to be tall!! Aunt Kristen and I will have to get together and start discussing how we are going to train her for her future volleyball career.
Everyone is doing well. My mother being here has been a HUGE help. Grandma Johnson is going to come and stay next week and I am not sure how I am going to function when the grandmas are gone. Ross is an absolute natural, so much so that he intimidates me!!! He should be the one staying at home with Shelby. He goes back to work tomorrow and even though he enjoys his job he is not looking forward to leaving Shelby.

Shelby is all packed in her car seat to go to the doctor.

Grandpa Leyendecker has been eating lunch at Shelby's house and he checks on her on his way home from work.

Great Aunt Sherry came by after work to check up on me. Poor Shelby does not get enough attention.

Mom had to have a picture with Shelby. Shelby seems to love her mom even without makeup!

Shelby and Kim were released from the hospital yesterday at about 5 pm. Grandma Leyendecker will be staying with us most of this week and was an absolute lifesaver last night. She took the first watch and obviously the most fun-filled. I was informed about two o clock this morning that Shelby had some pretty nasty gas which in turn led to some irritability to say it nicely. She did finally get past all the gas and settled down. My shift was rather uneventful, but it was good just to hold my little girl. She is such a doll. We are truly blessed. I did get her to sleep in her crib for a couple of hours between feedings with the help of her trusty Aggie pacifier. I will probably be going back to work on Wednesday and am not looking forward to leaving her at home. Shelby did have a little jandice on her face so we sunbathed her today as you'll see in the pictures; when she was outside she was just as calm as can be. Kim said that was the Johnson blood coming out in her; we do love to lay out. Anyway here are some more pictures and I am the first one to brave the video in the circle I know. If it works there will be more to come; especially when she gets her personality.

Thanks for all the support we've been getting; it's been great. Keep us in your prayers.

P.S. I feel like I'm back in the Corps; five hours of sleep and I feel lucky to have gotten that.

Grandma Johnson and her famous baby talk. Watch for the smiles.

Shelby Ann Johnson

Shelby's here!!!

I am officially a papa!!!
Shelby was born at 10:50 last night; she was 8 lbs 12 ozs and 20 inches long. CHUNKY MONKEY as Kim would say. Mother and daughter are both doing great. Kim was an absolute CHAMPION last night; she pushed through three contractions and out popped Shelby. I was absolutely speechless when she came out. I think I said she was gorgeous like fifteen or twenty times. Now that I think about it I think that was all I said for like five minutes. We are hoping to go home tomorrow, as long as Shelby checks out okay we should be fine to do so.

And now for your viewing pleasure, I present Shelby and company.

Did Kim just have a baby or take a nap. Who knows.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Thanks to everyone for the calls and the birthday cards! So far it has been a really great birthday and probably the best, so far, was Ross baking me my favorite cake. Yes, it is funfetti with funfetti icing (Ross refers to it as three year olds birthday cake and laughs every year). He made it last night and yes, I did have some for breakfast! I wouldn't do that if I wasn't pregnant :)

Update

Well, I went to the doctor today and nothing much has changed. I am now dilated 2 cm. and 50% effaced. I find this odd since last time I was 70% effaced. I seem to be going backwards. The doctor told me she was going to go ahead and induce me and it would have to be Monday or Wednesday, as this is when she is at Memorial Hermann Katy. She said she would call over to the hospital and schedule it and call and let me know. She just called and said they are booked up for two weeks. She is trying to get me to go to Memorial Hermann Memorial City but I am fighting this tooth and nail. Right now we are just waiting this out and she is trying to pull some strings and maybe get me on a waiting list. I just hope at this point Shelby just decides to come on her own. My fortune cookie at lunch today did say that I would be getting an unusual present soon. It is my birthday tomorrow. I need to make sure Shelby realizes this.
