Hilarious

You all have to see this. I could hardly breathe I was laughing so hard. Kim had to go to the bathroom she was laughing so hard. Of course we are somewhat tired at this point in time.

Shelby's Latest Trick

Shelby was lying on her tummy today and she decided today would be the day when she rolled herself over. She did it so easily as to say I could have done this two weeks ago but I do things in my time and my terms. Hmmm...wonder where she gets that from?

Pictures and the Girl's Side of the Story

You have already hear Ross' version of Thanksgiving and Shelby and I did not get to go and play in the snow over Thanksgiving or so we thought. I will get to that later. Thanksgiving was good and of course we all ate ourselves sick. Shelby had a small melt down right before lunch on Thanksgiving. I think it was a combination of having to ride in the car seat, being tired, being passed around, but most of all she scratched herself. We had to call grandma in to get her to calm down and go to sleep. Once she took a nap she was back to her old self and was quite social. She sat on a bunch of laps but spent most of her time on her Great Aunt Diana's lap. Aunt Diana eventually shared with everyone else :). Friday the boys left at 5:30 am and the girls were on their own. We went that afternoon to have Shelby's picture taken and she did not flash any of her famous smiles but we think we got a good picture just the same. Picture to come later. Grandma stayed with us most of the weekend since momma has her strange sleeping issues (sleeping walking, etc.). We had lots of fun and we were glad we were not freezing in West Texas. When we put Shelby to bed now we just put her in and she pops in the thumb and is asleep in ten minutes. Well Saturday night she kept talking and talking and grandma and I kind of looked puzzled at each other. I said I can tell she is getting frustrated she must not be tired. I went to get Shelby and discovered the problem. Her sleeve was covering her hand. I pulled her sleeve down and she popped in her thumb and was out. Daddy came home Sunday night at 11 so he did not get to see Shelby until Monday night. Monday night grandpa came by to drop off dad's four wheeler and momma was eating dinner. Dad came in with his hand behind his back and to mom's surprise she got a snow ball smashed on her head. Grandpa and Daddy had put snow in one of the coolers to weigh it down. There was snow on the table, floor and on my plate.

We did get to see Ross' grandparents, his aunt Sherry, cousin Emily, and her son Marty. Aunt Sherry sent me some pictures and I tried to post them but they turned out so small you could not see who was in the picture. Shelby was asleep when we got to aunt Sherry's house. We layed Shelby on the floor next to Marty and he patted her leg and woke her up. We set Shelby and Marty in front of each other and Shelby smiled from ear to ear at him. She likes her cousin Marty. Below are some pictures from this weekend.

My cousin Ashley holding Shelby.

There is a story behind this picture. It looks like Shelby is loving on her doll. That is what I thought too. She was talking really loud and her "talking" got more on more frustrated. I took the doll away and her thumb went immediately in her mouth. She was frustrated that the doll was keeping her thumb out of her mouth.

I'm Dreaming of a White Thanksgiving...

...and my dream came true.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and I'm pretty sure I need a vacation from my vacation. We started the holidays off at the cabin in Ellinger for a Thanksgiving dinner that could have fed an army. Good food and good company was had by all.
On Friday, David and I headed west to Sierra Blanca where we met up with Papa Crockett (Kim's Grandfather) and two of his friends to hunt some very elusive mule deer. We went to hunt deer, but we definitely spent more time watching the weather than anything else. Four to five inches of snow to be exact. It started snowing about 10 am on Saturday and, baring a couple of short breaks, it kept snowing until Sunday morning at 9 am or so. We had a lot of fun watching the weather, riding in the snow, playing some dominoes, and eating to our hearts content. We didn't shoot anything, but we did have a good time and here are some pictures to prove it.

(Travis this is what a real Dutch oven looks like)

The cabin was full, but everyone found a corner to get comfy in

This was Kim's cousin Wade's comfy corner of the bed

This was Sunday morning when we got up to hunt

The house that Papa and his friends stayed in

David and I rode around in his new used Jeep on Saturday Afternoon while it snowed. It worked like a charm.

Sunday morning we braved the snow in our four wheelers and Kim told me later that she heard I was hot dogging in the snow.

It was pretty fun.

David claims that this bike is on its fifth life

This is on top of the highest road on the ranch. It is a pretty hairy drive down especially in the snow. Twice I started gaining speed even though I had the brakes locked.

This video is when the snow started falling and the building that I pan to is where David and I slept. It is a cozy bungalow built into the side of a hill.

Visitors and an Update

Shelby has had more visitors this week and it is not Thanksgiving yet. Shelby's Great-Aunt Bonnie came to see her. Mom fell down on the job again and forgot to take a picture. We will see Aunt Bonnie at Thanksgiving and will get a picture with her then. Great-Grandma and Grandpa Johnson are coming to Aunt Sherry's house today and they are bringing Ross' cousin Emily and her son Marty. Marty is three months older than Shelby and I can't wait to see them together and get to meet Marty for the first time. Shelby loves to look at the baby in the mirror so a real baby could be very exciting. I will try to get some pictures and or video. Ross and Great-Grandpa Johnson are going to the Rockets game thanks to free tickets from Katie Johnson (Ross' cousin). It will just be us girls tonight plus Marty. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. We will be counting our blessings once again this year. We have even more to be thankful for with little Shelby now here. The most immediate blessing I can think of besides everyone is healthy is that Shelby's sleeping all night continues. We put her in bed and she talks herself to sleep by 10 and wakes up at 5 to eat and have a diaper change and then puts herself back to sleep till 8 or so. We are so spoiled!!!!!!!

Shelby Talking

As Kim posted earlier, Shelby has started talking quite a bit lately. The only problem is that she won't talk on cue and she really clams up when we bring out the video camera. I have gotten some small bits and pieces, but this one is the best we have gotten so far (considering Kim doesn't know how to use the camera). It is not the happiest talking and there are none of her famous smiles that just melt my heart. Actually I think at the end there are a few expletives about getting the camera out of her face and giving her thumb back. Anyways, if you want to see the good stuff, it looks like you'll just have to come visit.

It's A Miracle!!!!

Well, it has happened and happened the last two nights, Shelby has slept thru the night!!!!!! Shelby went to bed Friday night at 9 and did not get up until 5:30. She really did not even fully wake up at 5:30 but I heard her smacking on her thumb and went and fed her. Lets just say I needed her to eat. She went right back to bed and slept another 2 hours. Saturday night we went to a party so she did not go to sleep until 10. At 5:30 I got her out of bed and fed her and she slept for another 3 hours. Hopefully this continues!!! We have been trying to get video of her talking and smiling. Once she gets going she will talk your ear off and you can't get a word in edgewise. Aunt Sherry experienced this, this weekend. Every time we pull out the video camera she stops the talking and smiles. She also talks and smiles when you put her in front of a mirror. The baby in the mirror is her little friend and they smile at each other and talk (unless daddy is there with the video camera).

First Blood

I have drawn my first blood for the 2007-08 hunting season.

I am lucky that Kim's grandfather is as big of a hunter as I am and her dad doesn't mind me tagging along when they go hunting. We left at noon on Friday to go to Sonora where Papa Crockett has a ranch that has whitetail, Texas dall sheep, and turkey. We had a blast getting out in the boonies and having our hunting camp conversations. On Sunday morning before we left, I tagged this old ram that decided to eat the wrong corn at the wrong time. I have told a few people I would post pictures for people to see. For those of you that don't care for this stuff, suck it up, because it is hunting season and there WILL be more to come.

By the way Shelby and Kim are doing great; she really is "Growing like a weed".

Right after the harvest

This is the buck I saw at Columbus the weekend before deer season opened, I haven't decided whether or not it will live if it comes out again.

2 Months

Shelby was officially two months yesterday. She went to the doctor to get her shots. I was really not looking forward to this. I HATE shots and I was really sad that Shelby was going to have to get them. Grandma and I took her to the doctor because dad had to work. Sounds like a good excuse to me. When we went in and took her clothes off to be weighed and measured the nurse said, "she looks like a 3 month old". "Are you sure she is not a 3 month old?" Well Shelby weighed 13 lbs. 4 ozs. (95th percentile) and she measured 25.5 inches (too tall to even register on the chart). We have a little amazon for a daughter, but we are perfectly happy with that. The next nurse came in to give her the shots. She said, "she's huge". It is a good thing that I am use to everyone saying that. Shelby got 4 shots and one vaccine orally. Grandma knows how much I HATE shots. Did I mention that? Grandma told me to leave and she would stay with her. Since Grandma is a nurse this was business as usual for her. I did go down the hall and heard Shelby scream once. She did very well. She has been running a fever but even though she did not feel good last night she was still smiling at us. The doctor noticed her size also and he said whatever you are doing keep doing it. When I called Ross to tell him how big she was he said, "that is how we grow them".

Warrenton

Shelby went to her Great-Great-Grandparents farm just outside Warrenton on Saturday. Her grandma and Great-Aunt Diana now own it and there was hay that needed to be hauled. Shelby was a big help, she provided entertainment. I did run over Ross' foot with the trailer. Luckily he was wearing steel toe boots. I say he shouldn't have stuck his foot there! I admit it was my fault. The only other funny thing was Ross was still unhappy with my driving and he was shaking his head as he was loading hay on the trailer and fussing. He signaled for the passenger's very tinted window to be rolled down. He was fussing as it was rolled down. Guess who was sitting in the passenger seat.....Shelby and I. He had been fussing at grandma's driving. Grandma had seen him shaking his head and fussing and she said I think Ross is fussing about my driving. I said he would not do that. We got a good laugh out of that!

Aunt Cissy Visits

Ross' Aunt Cissy was in town last Friday and she came and saw Shelby. Shelby can't wait to come to Port Lavaca and see the rest of the Hahns. It may be close to Christmas though, as Ross has lots of deer hunting scheduled, of course.

Classic

I have to share this story with everyone at Ross' expense. Friday evening when Ross got home Shelby was laying on her changing pad on the floor. Ross got on the floor next to her and started to give her kisses and talk to her. All of a sudden Ross sat up very quickly and I noticed that he had something on his chin. He took off to the kitchen and started washing out his mouth. When he went to give Shelby a kiss he got much more than what he wanted. Shelby spit up in his mouth. Later that evening Ross was in her face again and she sneezed all over him. She loves her daddy!!!
